Akeel Rangwala

Akeel Rangwala graduated valedictorian of a class of 1,000 students at Plano West Senior High School in Plano, TX.   He currently is a Junior at Harvard College majoring in economics.

Since his freshman year, Akeel has remained active in investing.  In addition to GPS, He also assists in managing the education program for Harvard Investment Association, a student run portfolio at the college.  Akeel’s interest in finance also extends to academia.   In the summer of his senior year of high school, Akeel wrote a paper on the role of hedge funds in the 2000 technology bubble.  His work in behavioral finance continued into his freshman year of college as a research assistant for Professor David Laibson.  Finally, in the summer of 2007, he worked on banking research at the Federal Reserve Board’s financial studies division in Washington D.C.

On campus, Akeel participates with four students in the Federal Reserve Challenge, a competition in which teams simulate the Federal Reserve and its monetary action.  He and his teammates are two-time national champions and recipients of the $25,000 award.  Akeel also retains an interest in international relations and is an active member of Model United Nations.  This year, he is directing a committee for the Harvard high school conference, which attracts more than 3,000 delegates around the world.

When he isn’t working, Akeel enjoys reading the Economist, playing tennis, and scuba diving when possible.
